Lateral shaft play

1988 Supra Comp-how much lateral shaft play should there be if any? Just bought the boat and it needs a new prop. We jiggled the shaft and want to make sure that it doesn't need repair as well. Thanks!

sounds like a party, lol.

when you say you jiggled it, is that the prop end? there are rubber bushings in the strut that should limit the play. they wear out over time. a slight amount of movement is ok. you should be able to see the very end of the bushing....also called cutlass bearings. there should be ridges on the bushing like this (hard to find a good pic)
