Painting the trailer

My trailer's paint is faded very badly and theres some rust spots on it. I have started removing the paint down to bare metal and have some of it primed already. What kind of top coat should I use? I was thinking about just spraying it with rustoleum or possibly with some of that spray on bedliner for trucks. Any input?

I'd do a good coat or two of primer then a coat or two of a rustoleum type paint.

if you have access to a air compressor you can buy a cheap paint gun and paint at auto parts stores that all ready is mixed and ready to spray if you want it to look like factory, I Sprayed my trailer with there primer and jet black with a final coat of clear and it looks awesome now! You just have to make sure you sand the whole trailer! Oh and you don't have to take your paint down to bare metal when painting as long as you sand it to take the shine off so the new paint will adhere!

FYI - I have a friend that just got his Mastercraft trailer sandblasted, epoxy primed and top-coated for $250! Deal of the day, I'd say!

Wow, I got quoted $1100 for everything

I'd pay $250 in a heartbeat. Did that include getting his boat in some sort of sling or did he have to bring the trailer empty to them?

1100 seems very high you could have it sand blasted and powdercoated for about 300-500 around here

Thats cheap! $1100 is the lowest I got. Got 2 at $1300 and the other at $1100. Those were all for Acrylic Enamel. I cant even imagine what powder coating would cost here!

He took his boat to the dealer where they stored for a couple of weeks while they were winterizing it. That freed up the trailer to get sandblasted and painted. Makes me want to do mine.

I did mine with spray cans and it looks pretty good, but materials alone climb up there, it took me something 15-16 cans, plus all the prep work, kinda wish I'd recoated with herculiner or something more durable, lotta scratch's after just one season...although touching up is a breeze.......
