Gone for upholstery...

This morning I took the Saltare to a local upholstery shop to have a few seat cushions redone as well as the rear ski locker lid. As much as it pains me to do so, I'm also having a snap cover made for it. I only keep in on the water for a couple weeks on vacation, but I need a cover that works well on the water for when it rains.I've been putting off spending the money but it needs to be done and I might as well do it before all the shops back up when it gets warmer and everyone is rushing to get their stuff done. Oh well, I'm excited that the season is almost here. Should be on the river in another month or so.

What did he quote you for the snap cover? I need a new custom cover and the cheapest local place I found was $1500!

interested in snap price too... I'm gonna do my own snap bow cover this spring and if it goes well, take the rest on......

Holy hell I thought shops in NJ were expensive... When I stopped in to talk and see the shop he told me about $800, after seeing the boat yesterday he said $750. One thing to note, I don't have a tower. I use an extended pylon and with all my projects a tower probably won't be happening any time soon. The Saltare is roomy enough that I can deal with boards on the floor or in the bow so not a big deal for me.

Cover will be two piece with cockpit overlapping bow in the walkway to limit runoff, heavy reinforcing around all the snaps and over the windshield and any other wear points, and heavy duty/stronger snaps on the leading edges and corners to help keep it all in order if I get stuck in the rain towing. I chose to go with Sunbrella material which matched the color of the boat fairly well.

The guy sounded very confident in the quality of his work and from what I saw of the shop environment and some of their other projects there. They seem to do a fair amount of work on go-fast $100k+ boats as well as interiors for classic car restorations. I am comfortable it should come out nice.

The upholstery job got delayed a bit since the guy in in the process of moving to a bigger shop in a better location. He ended up moving some of his stuff to the new building and taking my boat over there to do it. Picked it up today on the way home from work and I'm happy with the work. Cover seems tough, well reinforced, and looked good. The snaps irritate me a bit but such is life, I won't see them from behind the boat anyhow.

The upholstery on the seat bases and ski locker looks and feels great. Nice and plush and matches the seat backs. It cost a pretty penny but I'm pleased.

Now I just have to thoroughly clean everything, de-winterize, and install perfect pass. Shooting for next weekend or the following if life gets in the way. Either way I aim to be on the river this month. Air temps getting to 60s and 70's next week and the river is up in the low 50s now. It's time to ride!

I found a custom saltare cover on skiboatcovers.us -- Comes down below the rub rail and he is adding custom cut-outs for $850. My existing snap-on cover is just like yours except 1-piece instead of 2. Has been working really well for almost 10 years now!
